Goodbye, Farewell – Smile for Me …

12 Dec

With breaking, aching hearts we have to inform you of the death of our most beloved Martin today at 1.30 – he passed away peacefully at home, embraced by his family whom he adored, and who adore him entirely.  The funeral will take place tomorrow, Thursday 13th December, at 12.30 in the Pardess Haim Cemetery in Kfar Saba.

In true and typical Martin fashion, some weeks before he died, he wrote what he called “The Last Blog.”  Here it is – below:

Goodbye, Farewell – Smile for Me …

I won’t know when this blog will be posted.

Pam will have taken that decision for me.

We lost our fight with pancreatic cancer.

We had some successes for which I’d like to thank each and every one of you.

It never broke my spirit.

Smile for me.

Shalom, shalom.

Pam, Sidelle, Tal and Joe – such a sadness has filled our hearts with the news of the passing of our dearest of friends. We will always remember the good times we had together and of his corageous battle with cancer. Never complaining, always optimistic – Moshe will be remembered foerever for his softspoken and gentle manner, which hid his true person – a true hero of the people of Israel

I feel quite hollow, as if the life-affirming touchstone that inspired me this past year has been shattered. I am so sad to write of my deepest sympathy, but glad of the opportunity to celebrate the fighting
spirit that permeated your entire family and be reminded of a life lived with passion, commitment and attitude!
    Loving thoughts to you all,
    Linda Barron

We have only just heard of the very sad passing of your dear Martin. We know from the times that we were able to see him during his illness just how remarkably stoic he always was. He really was one of life’s gentlemen. May the wonderful memories you have of your wonderful life together sustain during this difficult and dark time. Thinking of you all and sending much love. Joanne and Ed Epstein (Manchester)
